Zoological Name: Mylopharyngodon piceus
Generally, the word carp refers to the common carp. In Cameroon, the black carp is particularly common. It is a fish with oval scales, broad at the sides, fleshy and short. It is a freshwater and farmed fish. It is prized for its flesh and is eaten braised, grilled or in broth.
Nutritionally, with around 7% lipids, carp is a semi-fatty fish, like sardines, sea bass, anchovies and mackerel. Carp is particularly rich in protein, pro-vitamin a, vitamin a, vitamins B (B3 and B12), vitamin D, vitamin E, phosphorus, selenium and iron. Eating 100 grams of carp provides 162 calories. The Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids contained in this fish are polyunsaturated fatty acids that are essential for the body to function properly. In particular, they are involved in balancing the cerebral, cardiovascular, hormonal and cellular systems.
