Scientific name: Pleurotus
The cultivation and sale of edible mushrooms in fresh or dried form is widespread throughout the world, in Europe and Asia. It is not yet widespread in Africa, but in Cameroon, mushroom production, particularly of oyster mushrooms, is spreading rapidly. The mushrooms grown in Cameroon are prized for their flavor and their medicinal use in natural pharmacopeia. They are highly nutritious, exude aromatic scents and have a unique flavor. Some mushrooms, in particular the pleurotus spp variety, have hematological, antiviral, anti-tumour, antibiotic and antibacterial properties. This category also limits the presence of bad cholesterol, and has an action on immune-modulation.
